Jean Michel Basquiat

Jean Michel Basquiat was an American artist born in 1960. he created over 2000 paintings which some of them focus on the social aspects and discrimination in the US. His paintings are maximalist and include hidden meanings, text and symbols that might be interpreted in different ways. He usually worked on a few pieces at the same time, creating a full of emotional pieces using a load of techniques and colours. After Warhol's death, Basquiat's works became darker and more disturbing. Overreacting anger into art. 





During the reseach i discover many techniques he used and i decided to use his works as a main references for my project. He inspired me to experiment so that i decided to buy spray paint (as he used in some of his works) and use hands.

    What were the techniques you discovered? Aside from the spray paint how did he apply the paint? What were his mediums? This post needs more detail as it is only scratching the surface.

Tell me a story

The story of my project will present the maximization of emotional expressions and feelings shown in the original pieces. The main idea of this project will be a recreation of the paintings from the Renaissance painted by Polish artists such as Jan Matejko and Lukasz Porebski. At this moment, I'm considering creating portraits of the people presented in their most famous paintings. The concept of this work is focusing on their facial expressions creating busy and messy backgrounds.

Reflection

This post presents my reflection on the second term for art portfolio: During the major project for Art portfolio, I struggled with many aspects of the process, and I can't say I'm fully satisfied with the final outcome as it still might be improved. However, I did my best during these few weeks. I searched the information about the artists, colours and sleep paralysis to present the topic correctly. I have created many side paintings and sketches that I'm satisfied more or less, but it helped me to improve my painting skill and general knowledge about creating. I searched for many helpful materials and used inconvenient tools to get closer to reaching the goal, which was created my best painting until now.  This subject was the most influential for me among the others.
