Creating studies

 These quick sketches present the cadres marked by the red lines and paintings I might use as references for my project. During this project, I will focus on the facial expressions of presenting characters in my paintings. Also, I have tried to recreate the original paintings in my style in a short time.

    Add explanation on what you were doing with each of these drawings in terms of atmosphere, your understanding of each piece, use of line and texture and so on.

Artist Research - Harry Simmonds

 Planning my project, I have been looking for artists who specialised in Ink drawings, and the one that kept my eye was Harry Simmonds. He is a British artist born in 1978 in Bristol. Most of his works present human bodies or portraits created in a very specific style. Simmonds created his own style of drawing by using ink and white acrylic paints on separate sheets. The techniques used in the drawings give a dynamic in its unusual form. 'Head of Mike 2'  89.5 x 70 cm approx. Ink and Acrylic on Paper. 'Head of George 1'  99.4 x 70 cm. Ink and Acrylic on Paper. During the research for my ink drawing, I decided to create my piece on separate A4 watercolour sheets like Harry Simmonds. Another interesting aspect of his works is the presented facial expressions. As my drawings will include many faces, I think Simmonds's works might be a great reference in finalising my piece.

Website research - Josh Hernandez and Miles Johnston

 In creating my website, the inspiration gave me Josh Hernandez and Miles Johnston. Both got a visually clean, easy-to-read and minimalistic website to expose their artworks easily.  Josh Hernandez's Homepage website  Miles Johnston's Homepage website   The homepages of the artists are different. Hernandez's homepage website is based on minimalism. It includes on his homepage the contact page and social media. With a one-click or swap, we can see his portfolio or the information we may be interested in. Although Miles Johnston's homepage website includes all of the information as Hernandez's homepage and also gives the possibility to scroll the page to take a look at her portfolio straightforwardly when we get into her website. First thoughts about major project

Which theme are you most drawn to and why? How do you think you can apply this theme to work  in your own subject area? What pops into your head first when considering this  project? Does it make you think of any particular artists  and/or designers? Seeing the three themes in the presentation, I decided to choose expressionism. Although the presented artworks made me consider Earthly delights as well.  Earthly delights seem easier in planning, although finalising the project might be more complicated than expressionism based on my ideas.  Considering this project, I decided to create paintings including many details and human bodies by using colours in dark tones. I haven't made the final decision about the theme of my project, but I'm considering sleep paralysis, lucid dreams or fear of crowds.
