Alberto Giacometti - Artist Research

Alberto Giacometti was an artist from Switzerland known for his sculptures created in a unique style. He was also known for creating many clay busts that became famous and iconic. Giacometti's work often shows the subjects in unregular shapes and positions, with twisted bodies, which gives the sculptures a dynamic and sense of movement. We can find many paintings and sketches of his artwork, although he became famous mostly for his sculptures. The works of Giacometti present the essence of creating rough textures and unfinished surfaces. Giacometti used many different mediums, such as clay or brass, as it allowed him to work quickly. His clay busts were very expressive, and his technique was unique and innovative. Giacometti's clay busts were characterised by their expressive qualities and exploration of human emotions. Giacometti's interest in surrealist forms and themes such as sexuality and traumas. He also worked with painting and drawing and designed decorative objects. Giacometti is most famous for his sculptures, particularly his figures.

Creating my clay busts for Art Portfolio I will try to reconstruct the iconic sculptures made during the Renaissance to be more expressionistic based on the artwork of Alberto Giacometti. Also, I want to implement more disturbing and traumatising aspects into my 3D outcome by looking at Zdzislaw Beksinski as the next artist research will be about him as he was a colossal inspiration for my 2D outcomes.

The story of my project will present the maximization of emotional expressions and feelings shown in the original pieces. The main idea of this project will be a recreation of the paintings from the Renaissance painted by Polish artists such as Jan Matejko and Lukasz Porebski. At this moment, I'm considering creating portraits of the people presented in their most famous paintings. The concept of this work is focusing on their facial expressions creating busy and messy backgrounds.

Reflection

This post presents my reflection on the second term for art portfolio: During the major project for Art portfolio, I struggled with many aspects of the process, and I can't say I'm fully satisfied with the final outcome as it still might be improved. However, I did my best during these few weeks. I searched the information about the artists, colours and sleep paralysis to present the topic correctly. I have created many side paintings and sketches that I'm satisfied more or less, but it helped me to improve my painting skill and general knowledge about creating. I searched for many helpful materials and used inconvenient tools to get closer to reaching the goal, which was created my best painting until now.  This subject was the most influential for me among the others.
