wrong side of heaven

"This painting presents sleep paralysis in 3 stages representing a journey through the entire day ending up having sleep paralysis. The first canvas represents the energy that ran out during the day. Going to the middle shows tiredness, which may cause having sleep paralysis. The reason for having it might be a stressful day disrupting a sleeping pattern. 

Creating this piece, I marked the body parts of the five basic senses that are the most active during sleep paralysis, which means that we can experience taste, hearing, sight, smell and touch. Each of these connects and goes to the brain, which is represented by a spiral placed in the centre of my painting." 





The Nightmare


"The nightmare represents the creatures seen having sleep paralysis during the night and during the day. The black tones of this painting represent nighttime. Also, sleep paralysis might happen during the day, which is included in my painting by the orange heads and marks highlighting the facial features symbolising the light. This painting illustrates unknown personas coming out through the paint into a victim representing viewers."

Tell me a story

The story of my project will present the maximization of emotional expressions and feelings shown in the original pieces. The main idea of this project will be a recreation of the paintings from the Renaissance painted by Polish artists such as Jan Matejko and Lukasz Porebski. At this moment, I'm considering creating portraits of the people presented in their most famous paintings. The concept of this work is focusing on their facial expressions creating busy and messy backgrounds.

Reflection

This post presents my reflection on the second term for art portfolio: During the major project for Art portfolio, I struggled with many aspects of the process, and I can't say I'm fully satisfied with the final outcome as it still might be improved. However, I did my best during these few weeks. I searched the information about the artists, colours and sleep paralysis to present the topic correctly. I have created many side paintings and sketches that I'm satisfied more or less, but it helped me to improve my painting skill and general knowledge about creating. I searched for many helpful materials and used inconvenient tools to get closer to reaching the goal, which was created my best painting until now.  This subject was the most influential for me among the others. It helped me to improve myself as a painter and directed the way. I discovered a real passion for painting, techniques and styles to express myself as an artist in the future.
