Reflection

Image
This post presents my reflection on the second term for art portfolio: During the major project for Art portfolio, I struggled with many aspects of the process, and I can't say I'm fully satisfied with the final outcome as it still might be improved. However, I did my best during these few weeks. I searched the information about the artists, colours and sleep paralysis to present the topic correctly. I have created many side paintings and sketches that I'm satisfied more or less, but it helped me to improve my painting skill and general knowledge about creating. I searched for many helpful materials and used inconvenient tools to get closer to reaching the goal, which was created my best painting until now.  This subject was the most influential for me among the others. It helped me to improve myself as a painter and directed the way. I discovered a real passion for painting, techniques and styles to express myself as an artist in the future. Also, I noticed my mistakes fro...

Draft

Image
wrong side of heaven "This painting presents sleep paralysis in 3 stages representing a journey through the entire day ending up having sleep paralysis. The first canvas represents the energy that ran out during the day. Going to the middle shows tiredness, which may cause having sleep paralysis. The reason for having it might be a stressful day disrupting a sleeping pattern.  Creating this piece, I marked the body parts of the five basic senses that are the most active during sleep paralysis, which means that we can experience taste, hearing, sight, smell and touch. Each of these connects and goes to the brain, which is represented by a spiral placed in the centre of m y painting."   The Nightmare "The nightmare represents the creatures seen having sleep paralysis during the night and during the day. The black tones of this painting represent nighttime. Also, sleep paralysis might happen during the day, which is included in my painting by the orange heads and marks high...

Ink drawing - progress

Image
Creating my major project, I decided to make a second piece using ink. During my progress, I didn't struggle with the process during the first steps. However, finalising this work troubled me a lot. At the beginning, I planned to create a piece placed on watercolour sheets, but I didn't consider how I would present it and I must place it on another surface. In this case I decided to take an MDF from the workshop and glue the watercolour sheets. I have tried every possible way, but I came off from the MDF. To stick watercolour sheets, I used many types of glue, such as tape and spray.  In creating this project, I used inconvenient tools, such as perfume bottles and acrylic sprays, while I worked on this project at home. Finalising the project I used sepia pastels to make my work more interesting, dynamic and chaotic, as it seemed dull in monochrome.  In this step of the progress I tested how would work perfume bottle with ink. Unexpectedly, the pump got broken and I had to orde...

Homeage

Image
This post presents my final outcome for homeage exercise. I created this piece using an art board to get dead colours as my works present dying Van Gogh's sunflowers. By consulting this work with my tutor, I left blank spots. In creating this piece, I used fine liners to sketch and acrylic paints.

Acrylic painting - progress of creating

Image
In creating this piece, I change the idea a couple of times. Finally, It stopped on improvisation that will present sleep paralysis in expressionism based on Basquiat's style and techniques. The first idea of this project was to present sleep paralysis in 3 stages that will be represented by each canvas. Starting from the first canvas is supposed to represent the energy that ran out during the day. The middle canvas represents tiredness, which causes falling asleep. In my work, I have tried to present the journey through the entire day ending up sleeping. During that, we may get sleep paralysis, which is represented by the 3rd canvas showing creatures in different shapes and colours as it might be seen differently by everyone. The colours of my work represent a daytime that changes into red tones representing “hell” by going down. Creating the main character and focal point of my painting, I wanted to implement another meaning of my work, which shows the areas that sleep paralysis...

Marilyn manson - Artist research

Image
Marilyn Manson is an American musician and artist known for his provocative and controversial artwork. Many of Manson's paintings are based on themes of violence, sex, death, and politics. Also, he has   created several self-portraits. Manson's artwork is provocative and expresses his personality as a controversial artist. While some may treat his paintings as disturbing or offensive, others see them as an expression of artistic freedom and individuality. Marilyn Manson's paintings often include several techniques that mix traditional painting styles with more unconventional methods. Manson is also known for his use of spray paint or overlapping layers to create a texture to create unique paintings. When I get old,  30" × 22, watercolour on paper The man who eats his fingers I decided to use his works as a reference as he uses many techniques and mixing styles. Also, some of his paintings include spray paints that I want to use. I think Manson's painting may inspir...

Artist research - album covers

Image
This post presents the references that helped me create my major project. I want to present album covers of the bands I listen to, so I decided to include them in my blog as an artist research. For a long time while creating my pieces, I struggled with the colouristic and the composition of my works. I have tried to implement some of the elements from the album covers into my work.  For example, tool's album cover and Dry Kill logic's were a huge inspiration for my acrylic painting in both aspects of creating this work. It means I used the concept of using red and blue as a contrast and the concept of including many eyes in my acrylic painting. Also, looking at Dry kill logic's album cover, we can notice a face in the right corner that inspired me in both of my pieces to present a mysterious person in the dark.   The ink drawing was inspired by the album cover of Alice in chains band called Jar of flies in the colouristic aspect. In the final outcome of my ink drawing, I wo...

Landscape painting - workshop

This  post  presents my final outcome in workshops. We got a task to paint a landscape based on the picture of our choice creating unusual textures on our canvases.

Acrylic painting - exercise

Image
Working on my major project, I decided to create 2 pieces in style similar to Basuiat's. In creating these works, I was inspired by the most popular of his works and implemented them into mine. Also, I wanted to mix media, so I used charcoal and sepia pastels to create symbols as he did.   These works helped me to understand a couple of differences between our works and gave me a solution to improve it. I better understand his style, and I'm able to implement some of the features into my work. In the final piece, I will use charcoal and sepia pastels as well. Although I haven't decided about the symbol which will be placed in my work.

Abstraction

Image
In this post, I want to present my works painted in abstraction. In the class, we were introduced to abstraction, its techniques and style. In creating this work, I used many techniques, such as stamping or spilling the paints. We could use unusual materials and objects that I have never used before in painting. For example, in creating some of these paintings, we used sand or aluminium foil.
